Introduction of Department of History

One of the distinguished Department of the Government Shivalik college Naya Nangal is the Department of History and it was established in 1979 under the stewardship of Prof Gurcharan Singh. The vision of the department is to impart quality education to the students of this locality in  the field of History. 
Importance of History

History aims at helping students to understand the present existing social, political, religious and economic conditions of the people.
History explains the present in the light of the Past.
History helps to understand the present day problems both at the national and international level accurately and objectively.
Our department shares the commitment to ethics in our teaching and dedication to improve the understanding of history at local, national and global level. It helps to develop essential rational thinking

 A degree in history whether bachelor's or advanced prepares graduates for a multitude of careers. Historian, Archivist, Museum Curator, Teacher, Civil Services, Archaeologist. 

Goal / Purpose of History 

To create a life of awareness, fulfilment and responsible citizenship. A passion for learning about the past; enable them to gain a better understanding of the contemporary world and make connection to the future. In the first place, history offers a storehouse of information about how people and societies behave. Understanding the operations of people and societies is difficult, though a number of disciplines make the attempt.
